Virtual Summer 2022 Programs Announced

Forty-two (42) years ago todayon May 18, 1980Mount St. Helens erupted and changed the landscape surrounding the volcano forever. This eruption, although destructive, gave life to a new mountain. Years later, the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument was created and we started Volcano Scouting. Today, as we reflect on the past, we also look to inspire the next generation.

That is why we are excited to announce registration is now open for our Summer 2022 virtual programs!

Virtual Merit Badge Extravaganza

Mount St. Helens evolved from a pristine mountain to an active volcano on May 18, 1980. Today, it continues to impact the world through scientific research and recreation. Join us as we explore the geologic, ecologic, and preservation significance of the Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument through virtual merit badge courses. Youth scout participants will engage in both synchronous (live) and asynchronous (passive) virtual instruction filled with at-home projects, short films, interactive models, and more!

Merit badges offered:

  • Geology: June 15-July 15

  • Citizenship in the Nation: July 1-31

  • Environmental Science: July 15-August 15

Virtual Conservation Leaders Academy

As the world continues to change, we need young leaders eager to bring people together to solve our most challenging problems. This is especially true for issues like wildfire, endangered species, and deforestation. Join us for a leadership training experience like no other! Scouts will explore topics including communication, consensus-building, project management, and collaboration as they relate to environmental conservation. Through a combination of asynchronous (passive) programming and regularly-scheduled synchronous (live) sessions, participants will learn how to be effective leaders in the twenty-first century. This leadership course is a unique offering created by Volcano Scouting, including the partial completion of the Citizenship in Society, Citizenship in the World, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the Community, Communications, Fish and Wildlife Management, Forestry, Soil and Water Conservation, and Sustainability merit badges. This course is also tailored for scouts pursuing the BSA Distinguished Conservation Service Award.
