COVID-19 Update from Volcano Scouting

Updated: Apr 13, 2020

Good Evening,

Thank you for your interest in Volcano Scouting; a group of scouts, adult leaders, and outdoor professionals working to bring Scouting back to Mount St. Helens through stewardship, education, adventure, and leadership opportunities.

Over the past month, we have fielded several questions regarding the status of our upcoming programs amidst the global coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. At this time, we are moving forward with both the June 5-7 Merit Badge Weekend and August 7-9 Hornaday Adventure Camp as scheduled. Should any state, federal, or institutional guidelines prohibit our event from occurring as scheduled, we will postpone the event and determine the next steps at that time.

Please know that the health and safety of our staff and participants is our utmost concern, which is why we are closely monitoring regional conditions and coordinating with our partners at the Mount St. Helens Institute to develop contingency plans. At a minimum, our staff is prepared to implement extra cleaning of the Mount St. Helens Science and Learning Center, enforce social distancing practices, and offer full refunds to participants who wish not to participate in our program(s).

Additional details regarding our contingency plans and the status of both our programs will be released as they become available through our website, social media accounts, and email alerts. Should you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact us. Thank you again for your interest in our programs and we wish you good health in these challenging times.

Yours Truly, Quentin Comus President (971) 264-4309
